The theme for this event is Clean/Green/Alternative Energy.

A panel of Keiretsu Forum investors will be at the event to hear a limited number of entrepreneurs discuss their innovative products and ideas.  Contact Christine Friday by email to learn more about pitch slot opportunities.

Leadership Fremont: Help us make a difference-Dining for Dinosaurs & sponsor opps for CNHM

Can you help us make a difference in the education of children in our community?

The Chamber of Commerce Leadership Fremont’s class of 2011 is leading a special project for the Children’s Natural History Museum. Leadership Fremont is a program of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce that offers training and mentoring to developing leaders from businesses, government, and the non-profit sector. The cornerstone of this program is the Service Project, which gives participants an opportunity to plan, organize and execute a project that engages and enhances the services in our community.

The Children’s Natural History Museum is managed by Math Science Nucleus, and is one of the unique gems of Fremont. Founded in 1982, Math Science Nucleus is a non-profit (501(c)3), educational and research organization composed of scientists, educators and community members. It serves as an online science resource center to assist school districts, teachers, and administrators around the world. The major goal is to develop problem solving capacity through science for the world's children. For more information please visit www.msnucleus.org

The museum is visited by children from around the Bay Area, and beyond, that come to experience the rich history of our region. The museum features a vast collection of fossils. Beginning in 1940, these fossils were collected by the famous Wes Gordon, a teacher from Hayward, who led groups of young boys to uncover some of the most important finds in the Bay Area. So important, in fact, an entire era in geologic history was named after the little town in which it was discovered, the Irvingtonian Era. The facility also includes other important areas of science displayed in five areas:

  • HALL OF STARS featuring the Miller Stardome and "Walk through Time" Exhibit which shows how the Earth evolved from 4.5 billion years ago to the present.
  • NATURE HALL including 100 year-old specimens from the original DeYoung museum in San Francisco, collection of Otto Graff (Irvington High School teacher in the 1950's - 80's); and "Shells of the World Collection."
  • TOOLS OF EARLY HUMANS includes a collection of stone grinding materials, fish hooks, and arrowheads of early people in California. See contents of a midden (trash area) of local Native Americans (Part of the Mineral and Rock Hall).
  • MINERAL AND ROCK HALL is a collection that illustrates how minerals are grouped by their chemical composition. The rocks show the major sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks found in California.
  • HALL OF SMALL WONDERS includes displays of radiolarians, diatoms and foraminifera. Looking through microscopes, an amazing world of little creatures of the sea can be seen.

In order to increase the number of school field trips, a new classroom was created in the museum last year. However, even with the additional classroom, there is still an increasing demand for more students to visit the museum. That’s where we, as a group and leaders in the community, can make a difference. The museum needs an outdoor patio area where large numbers of students can be accommodated for their lunch break. With an average of 15,000 students visiting a year, Leadership Fremont hopes to double the amount of students able to participate in the field trips with this patio project. The total cost of our project is $15,000.

All sponsorships are tax-deductible and will be widely credited and recognized in a ribbon cutting event on April 20, 2011 and on printed material. Please refer to the attached sponsorship form for details. If you have any questions, feel free to call Vera Packard at (925) 348-5584. Together we can impact the lives of our young children who will one day be the leaders of our community.

Sincerely, Leadership Fremont Class 2011
